Howdy, subscriber gang!
For those looking to learn more about what Detroiters are thinking in the run up to the city’s mayor’s and City Council races, here’s your invitation to listen to the Detroit Black Democracy Podcast.
It’s the weekly podcast I’ve been co-hosting for the last several weeks with Eastside Community Network director Donna Givens Davidson as part of the Authentically Detroit podcast network.
Givens Davidson and Outlier Media executive director Orlando Bailey host the network’s flagship podcast, Authentically Detroit. The most recent episodes have been interviews with candidates, including City Council president Mary Sheffield, Councilman Fred Durhal III, THAW CEO Saunteel Jenkins and Triumph pastor Solomon Kinloch Jr.
The Black Detroit Democracy podcast aims to platform the voice of the people.
Listen to what community organizers like Kamau Clark, Edythe Ford and Jerjuan Howard are looking for in Detroit’s next mayor, and how one generation of leadership is passing the torch to the next.
We take on how Southwest Detroit’s Hispanic and Black community’s are viewing the race between Gabriela Santiago-Romero and state Rep. Tyrone Carter with Rev. Larry Simmons, and break down the historic coalitions among ethnic groups in the city with 482 Fordward’s Arlyssa Heard.
