One year of Detroit one million

Thanks for one year of journalism you can't find anywhere else. The feeling of gratitude is overwhelming.

A year after launching Detroit one million, I’m grateful to the people who have encouraged me and the readers who have felt compelled to subscribe.

To the paying subscribers, there aren’t many words I could put here that properly describe how much I am grateful for your support. It’s supported truly independent local journalism in a time when newspapers are closing at an emergency-level rate.

I’ve hoped to fill a void left by the diminished resources of the daily newspapers, which are leaving communities without reporters asking questions on their behalf and holding local leaders accountable.

I hope you allow me to continue doing that here and continue supporting my journalism at Michigan Chronicle far into the new year and many years beyond.

It’s been a year since I published the first scoop to this website revealing Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield attended a Trump themed holiday party.

Since then, we’ve brought you stories on Detroit City Council, the state Legislature and what’s happening within your community.

Your continued support has helped my life tremendously. I owe every one of you a huge thank you. The career in journalism I have worked so hard to build for myself has continued thanks to your encouragement. It’s a surreal experience every time one of you stops me at Planet Fitness, Marcus Market or somewhere in Midtown to express your appreciation for my writing.
