Unreleased music by late producer J Dilla has been discovered and plans are in the works for its official release, a spokesperson for his estate said Tuesday.

Detroit City Council welcomed the children of hip hop legend James Dewitt "J Dilla" Yancey to celebrate the beat-maker’s birthday ahead of a street naming ceremony in the city’s Conant Gardens neighborhood.

Dilla received praise from council members, including Coleman Young II, who said he was “geeking out” as a fan from his seat inside the Erma Henderson auditorium. He asked whether fans like him should expect new music to ever be released.
