A House Democrat from west Michigan made a public warning to Detroit voters about his Democratic leader who wants to be the city’s next mayor.

While attendance issues have plagued House Democrats’ ability to pass partisan legislation since lame duck, two lawmakers are now publicly blaming House Speaker Joe Tate, D-Detroit, for what they say has been ineffective leadership.

State Rep. Karen Whitsett, D-Detroit, blamed Tate for House Democrats’ lame duck issues in an interview with Gongwer’s Elena Durnbaugh published Sunday night.
